Pete's Statement of Intent - Signage through Western Eyes

We often do not explore our immediate / very familiar surrounding with this in mind I set out to photograph an area I was familiar with a different eye.

The Yau Mau Tai area of Kowloon Hong Kong is an area I know very well. Having spent many hours walking through taking photographs of markets and people going about their daily life. Although, this time, I focused on the signage and its environment.

Hong Kong because of its history of British Colonial rule the majority of signs are bilingual (English & Chinese). However, in more local areas of which Yau Mau Tai is Chinese is the predominant language used (naturally).

Although, I am unable read the language they give a sense of place help illustrate life in that area Hong Kong.
