Lynne Denton Rosebowl

20th February saw the annual Lynne Denton Rosebowl competition at Pudsey Camera Club. The Lynne Denton Rosebowl is an annual Portrait competition, where the entries are to entered as print with a maximum size of A4.

Member are allowed to enter upto 3 images to the competition and they are judged on the evening with feedback given, however, there are no marks just an overall winner.

The images I choose to enter were:

I’m sure you will be sad to read that non of my 3 images won the competition, however, they all faired well and the feedback received was interesting and useful.

Marivel – Tai Kwon Do Girl was criticised there not having enough space above her head, i.e. it was too tightly cropped.

And interestingly Ram was clearly the judges favourite, however, he didn’t like the colourful background i.e. it was too bright and distracting. In hindsight, I do agree with him. I have kept this image in the landscape with the backgroend because in this format it add context and narrative in relation to the 100 Strangers Project which it was originally intentioned. However, for a competition I think that a square format would be better and I believe that in this format it would have perhaps walk away with a prize.

Below is re-cropped version let me know what you think.
