Assignment 2 – The Shoot
I set off to my favorite shooting spot in Mong Kok, with the idea of capturing the late afternoon crowds around the main tourist market. My initial plan was to use a low viewpoint, providing a bug’s-eye or child’s-eye perspective of the bustling scene over a few hours, from a couple of different spots.
After a short break with a can of soda water, I quickly reviewed my images. While they were decent, they didn’t stand out to me. It was time for a re-think. I decided to try an even lower viewpoint and began shooting more landscape-style images. This shift in perspective sparked a creative idea when I noticed a discarded cigarette package on the ground.
The rest of the afternoon was spent capturing extreme low viewpoints, focusing on a single piece of litter in the foreground of the scene. Litter is so ubiquitous in our environment, yet it’s a detail we often overlook. These shots could be considered cityscapes, but with an emphasis on the subtle, often ignored elements that make up the urban fabric.
Attached are my contact sheets from the afternoon.
