“Select your longest focal length and compose a portrait shot fairly tightly within the frame in front of a background with depth. Take one photograph. Then walk towards your subject while zooming out to your shortest focal length. Take care to frame the subject in precisely the same way in the viewfinder and take a second shot.”

The two shots are essentially identical, with the only difference being the focal length used.
In the shot taken at 18mm, you can clearly see the distortion caused by the lens. For instance, features like the nose appear exaggerated, and more of the background is visible, adding a sense of depth.
On the other hand, the shot taken at 55mm offers much more natural and realistic proportions. The background appears compressed, creating a flattering and complementary effect for a portrait.
