My Journey with the Open College of the Arts: A New Chapter on My Blog

Welcome to a new chapter on my blog! After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to bring together all my creative work in one place. If you’ve been following my journey, you might know that I’ve had a separate blog dedicated to my studies with the Open College of the Arts (OCA). Today, I’m excited to announce that I’m merging that content with my main blog to create a permanent record of my work.

A Little About the Open College of the Arts

For those unfamiliar, the Open College of the Arts (OCA) is an inspiring distance learning institution that provides a wide range of creative courses. It’s a place where creativity is nurtured and where students like myself can develop their skills in disciplines like photography, fine art, writing, and more. The OCA’s flexibility allows students to study at their own pace, making it an excellent choice for those who wish to balance their studies with other commitments.

My Journey Through Photography and Film Studies

Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of undertaking three courses with the OCA—two in photography and one in film studies. These courses were a transformative experience, providing me with the skills and knowledge needed to refine my creative voice.

The photography courses allowed me to explore various techniques, from the fundamentals of composition to more advanced topics like digital post-processing and conceptual photography. I delved into the world of light, shadow, color, and texture, learning how to capture the essence of a moment through my lens. The film studies course broadened my understanding of visual storytelling, analyzing how films communicate meaning through images, sound, and narrative structure. These studies gave me a deeper appreciation for the art of cinema and its power to evoke emotion and provoke thought.

From Student to Graduate

I am proud to share that I have graduated with an HNC in Photography. This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion that I have poured into my studies. While my time with the OCA was challenging at times, it was incredibly rewarding, and I’ve emerged with a strong foundation in both photography and film studies.

Why Combine My Blogs?

The decision to combine my OCA-related content with my main blog was a natural progression. I wanted to create a cohesive narrative of my creative journey—a single space where all my work, thoughts, and reflections could live together. By merging these blogs, I hope to make it easier for you, my readers, to follow my evolution as an artist and to share in the experiences that have shaped my work.

What to Expect Moving Forward

As I integrate my OCA work into this blog, you’ll find posts about the assignments I completed, the challenges I faced, and the insights I gained along the way. I’ll also be sharing some of the photography projects that I developed during my courses, alongside my continued explorations in photography and film. This space will serve not just as a record of my past work, but as a platform for ongoing creativity.

Thank you for being part of this journey. I’m excited to continue sharing my passion for photography and film with you, and I look forward to the new adventures that lie ahead.

Stay tuned for more!
