Ex 3.2 Part 2 EYV – A Durational Space

Following on from the previous post, here are a couple of examples where I’ve experimented with movement using slower shutter speeds..

Example 1: f/8, 1/10 sec
In this shot, I combined a slow shutter speed with deliberate movement, similar to a panning shot. What stands out to me is how the riders remain relatively sharp while the background transforms into a dynamic blend of blurred, wavy lines. This deviation from the typical panning technique helps to convey the chaos and movement of a Vietnamese street scene, capturing both the action and the frenetic energy around it.

Example 2: f/4, 1/13 sec
This image uses slow shutter and movement to create a surreal blur, depicting a crowd in a station. The soft, dreamlike quality of the motion contrasts with the stark stillness of the figures in the foreground, which helps to emphasize the overwhelming nature of the scene. The slow shutter captures the essence of motion while maintaining a sense of disorientation, making it a compelling exploration of how time and movement can shape our perception of space.
