Reflection on Tutor Feedback for Assignment 4
I’m very pleased with the tutor’s comments on Assignment 4. I was quite apprehensive about submitting it, as I wasn’t fully confident in the concept. This experience has taught me that I need to trust my instincts more, especially as my tutor pointed out that I am beginning to “find my voice.”
That said, my initial doubt in the concept likely influenced some of the weaker technical choices, particularly the lack of shadow detail in many images. I relied on a global adjustment and preset in Lightroom, which increased contrast too heavily. In hindsight, this was a case of “lazy processing,” and it detracted from the overall impact of the assignment. However, now that I have more confidence in the concept, I plan to revisit and reprocess the images to open up the shadows and improve their tonal range.
This doesn’t excuse the occasional poor composition in some images, which I also need to address. For the rework, I will start by reprocessing the images and possibly capturing new ones to expand the selection. Additionally, I’ll rewrite the assignment notes to resemble an essay outlining what I aimed to achieve rather than providing individual analysis for each image.
Lastly, I need to dedicate more time to improving my research skills, as my tutor has highlighted this as a “very weak area.” Strengthening this aspect will be crucial, not only for the assessment but also for my development in upcoming courses.
